Agent Eight stood in an MI6 computer lab next to a technician. She was busy going through the computer server, laptop and phone he’d taken from Keith Robinson’s office.

As he’d gone straight there, he was still covered in blood.

“Don’t you want to wash that off?” the technician said, glancing over her shoulder at him.

“I will later,” Eight said. “Just find out what’s inside those. Find out what Bokor is.”

She shrugged and went back to navigating the files she’d broken into.

“Okay,” she eventually said. “Right, I got it. It’s all a bit confusing, because they’ve used loads of subsidiary companies to muddy the trail. But the money Hays has been receiving is from a company named Voltech Industries.”

She looked at Eight. He appeared not to see the significance.

“You do know who they are, right?” she said, widening her eyes at him.

“I’ve been out of the country a long time,” he said.

“How long?”

“Eleven years.”

“And you pay no attention to the news?”

“Not unless I’m in it.”

She rolled her eyes at him.

“Okay,” she said. “Voltech are this huge American corporation. Private military contractor. Been around since the American Civil War. Except they weren’t one of the main guys. Like the fifth biggest weapons manufacturers in the States. That was until twenty years ago, when they merged with several technologies companies and are now at the forefront of military technology. Making them huge.”

“What type of military technology?” Eight asked.

“Computer systems,” she began listing off. “Smart guns. Drones. Integrated software for soldiers. Training simulators. Smart armor. Robots. Even some far out stuff where they’re looking to integrate software with the human brain.”

Okay,” Eight said. “Then what’s Bokor?”

“Well, there’s not a huge amount of stuff in these servers, but from what I can see, Bokor was the clinical trial Henry Farnham and three others went on. Now, I checked Robinson’s diary and it appears that he visited Voltech’s facility where Bokor was taking place.”

“But what were they doing?”

“I can’t tell you that from these,” she said. “All I’ve got is an address of the site where it took place. Nothing about what they did to him. My bet is to go there. See what you can find. Maybe get me access to their internal server. I bet I could get you what you’re after if I had access to it.”

Eight nodded. “Good,” he said. “Now I’ll take a shower.”
